The first $2 notes were issued in 1862 and had a portrait of the first Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton.   Some U.S. coin amounts used in the past were the half-cent, two-cent, three-cent, and 20-cent pieces, and a half-dime (a small silver coin).
