The coin amounts commonly used now are the 25-cent, 10-cent, five-cent, and one-cent pieces or the quarter, dime, nickel, and penny.   Congress created the Federal Reserve System on December 23, 1913, with the signing of the Federal Reserve Act by President Woodrow Wilson.
